Fantastic scenarios
Not so far into the future, technology will take a turn towards not only the ever smaller but towards the entirely new, fresh and even weird. The gods of physics and engineering are rewarding us with a new industry creating a new set of materials, tools, and most importantly toys to discover and build even better technologies. It is called Nanotechnology and some of its innovations have already hit the market as a report recently issued by the Americanbased Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies shows an estimate of over 800 manufactureridentified publicly available nanotech products at the rate of 3-4 new ones each week. In manufacturing materials with new properties, this surge is only scratching the surface of nanotech with future prospects including such fantasies as nano robots, programmable matter, and a revolution in the new field of Synthetic Biology.
